Rollei Rolleiflex 2.8E2

This Rollei Rolleiflex 2.8E2 is a medium format twin lens reflex film camera produced between August 1959 until June 1960.  Like its predecessor, the 2.8E, the 2.8E2 produces twelve 6x6cm frames per roll of 120 film, has an 80mm f2.8 Heidosmat viewing lens to go along with either a Xenotar or Planar 80mm f2.8 taking lens.  The Synchro-Compur MXV shutter is capable of speeds from 1-1/500, plus Bulb. Both lenses accept Bay III filters.

The 2.8E2 was a stopgap camera.  At the time the Rolleiflex 3.5F had been introduced with several new features such as a detachable hood and hinged focusing screen.  The 3.5F also incorporated a newer coupled light meter.  This proved a challenge to convert to a 2.8F model, so the 2.8E2 was introduced in the meantime.  It enjoys the same removable hood and focusing screen as the 3.5F but uses the uncoupled metering system of the 2.8E. Fewer than 8000 of this camera were made, making it fairly uncommon in the Rolleiflex world and one of the more desirable Rolleiflex models for collectors.
