Cinestill 50D - 35mm
First released in 2015, Cinestill 50D is the second film introduced by Cinestill, on the heels of their popular 800T film. Like the 800T, the 50D is based off Kodak's Vision3 line of motion picture film.
The film is notable for its daylight balance - rendering its best images in outdoor, daytime conditions. It has a soft contrast that makes it ideal shooting under harsh light. The color palette is similarly muted, akin to and softer than Kodak Portra. As an ISO 50 film, it has incredibly fine grain and high detail. As part of the remjet layer removal process, which renders the film safe for developing in photo lab C-41 machines, the film produces a distinct red glow around highlights, backlit subjects, and bright sources of light.
