Ilford Ortho Plus - 4x5
Ilford Ortho Plus is an ISO 80, orthochromatic black and white emulsion. It has been produced by Ilford for a number of years, solely as a large format film, but was introduced in 35mm and 120 formats in late 2019.
The film boasts incredibly fine grain, high sharpness, high detail, and moderately high contrast. Additionally, due to its orthochromatic sensitivity, it renders tonality much differently than the more common panchromatic film emulsions. Green and blue subjects render closer to white on Ortho Plus, while red and orange subjects will darken. The distinct look of this emulsion is well-suited for a wide range of subject matter, but it is particularly successful when paired with portraits and landscapes.
One last feature of Ortho Plus, this film can be handled under deep red safelights, allowing easier loading in darkrooms or process-by-inspection when developing the film.
