Introduced in 2020, Lomochrome Metropolis is the third film to be released in the Lomochrome family of experimental films. While its predecessors, Lomochrome Purple and Lomochrome Turquoise, both specialized on producing surreal images with certain colors swapped out for other colors, Metropolis takes a different tack. Lomochrome Metropolis can be summed up as a high contrast film with a muted color palette. We have heard some folks refer to it as a "color film noir" look. But this isn't quite the entirety of the Metropolis look. In addition to the washed-out colors and deep, black shadows, there is a bit of a skewed color cast to film. This tends to look slightly blue/cyan, though results can vary based on exposure and how the film is scanned.
Like the other Lomochrome films, Metropolis is billed as a variable speed emulsion, able to be rated between ISO 100-400. While most color negative films actually enjoy this kind of flexibility, the variable ISO rating of the Lomochrome films is especially helpful in tweaking the look of their special effects. In particular, the blue/cyan color cast of Metropolis will vary based on whether the film is under or over exposed. This leaves room for experimentation and customization of the final look.
In all, Lomochrome Metropolis is another fun addition to the stable of color films available to photographers. It adds its own distinct look and provides a fun avenue of experimental exploration.
