The Akica talking Garfield camera is an inexpensive, novelty, compact 35mm camera that has a built-in speaker that plays one of a few recorded Garfield phrases when a button on the front of the camera is pushed. The camera features a fixed lens, shutter, and aperture. It is meant to be the most basic of point-and-shoot cameras, albeit with a Garfield motif for those who are fans of the famous cartoon cat.

Akica Talking Garfield Camera
Thank you to Mike Stanavech, who brought in this Akica talking Garfield camera because he knew we'd get a chuckle out of it. After we got tired of carrying this around the shop, making it belt out mildly creepy Garfieldisms such as, "No smiles, no cake and ice cream" we actually started to wonder just where this camera came from. Thus far, this has been one of those rare cases where we couldn't turn up much info.
There is a whole series of compact, point-and-shoot cameras out there, bearing the Akica name, but somehow we don't think they were actually made by Akica. Our suspicion is that they came, instead, from Yashica. We did find a couple of Akicas with the Yashica name on them, as well, but this is only a mildly educated guess on our part.
Academic curiosity aside, we enjoyed the distraction of playing with this Garfield camera. Thanks again Mike!
