Fuji Instax Mini 90
Is having your brand name become synonymous with your product a good thing? Xerox, Jell-O, Frisbee, and Band-Aid are just a few examples of brand name items that are now labels for the items themselves. Another notable that could join that list is Polaroid. Think of instant film cameras and the first - and sometimes only - name to get mentioned is Polaroid. Regardless of what you know of other instant film and instant film cameras, mention a "Polaroid", and everyone knows that you're referring to an instant photograph. Perhaps we should make a claim to changing the connection and calling it "Instax", instead. The Fuji company, using the name "Instax", has been keeping instant film going for years now, and often does not get the credit it deserves. Far from being an also-ran in the film market, Fuji has been keeping good, reliable, easy-to-use cameras in the marketplace.
The Fuji Instax Mini 90 is a small instant camera that punches far above its weight in the photography world. The controls on this camera give the photographer the freedom to create images that they envision. Even with options like multiple exposure, brightness controls, a kids mode, and even a selfie mirror, the Fuji Instax Mini 90 is still a fun camera at a party and easy enough to hand off to the kids at a backyard barbecue.
As all of the above points out, the only thing "mini" about the Instax mini 90 is the size of the image. But perhaps mini isn't even the correct description. At roughly the size of a credit card, these photos are the perfect size to carry in your pocket and show off to your family, friends, and other photographers. While they may be a bit small for taking to your local frame shop, they are the perfect size for the refrigerator art gallery when they're not on tour with you.
Given that Fuji is the company that puts all the effort into this format, we say it's time to start using the word "Instax" whenever that's what the photograph actually is. Vivid color, fast-developing photographs, stable image quality, ergonomic camera design - Fuji deserves all the credit we can give them.
