This Olympus XA3 was released in 1985 as a mild update on the Olympus XA2. All in all, it is largely the exact same camera: compact, zone focusing, sharp 35mm f3.5 Zuiko lens, autoexposure all the way. Where it made small improvements were in the expanded ISO range (up to 1600) and the ability to read the DX code of the film can. The XA3 also brought back the backlight compensation feature from the original XA.
In use, the XA3 is fast and simple. As mentioned, focusing is manual via a zone focusing scale to the side of the lens. By choosing one of three settings, the user can set the camera to near, middle or far focus. Exposure is set automatically by the XA3, with the camera's light meter fully controlling shutter and aperture selection. Taken together, this makes the XA3 a very fast and easy camera to use!
