Introduced in 1960, the Yashica-Mat LM was an improved version of the standard Yashica-Mat camera that added an uncoupled exposure meter. When using the Yashica-Mat LM, the user reads an indicated number at the top of the camera and inputs that into a calculator located around the focus knob, which gives corresponding shutter speed and aperture combinations which can then be set on the respective exposure setting dials on the face of the camera.
Apart from the addition of an exposure meter, the Yashica-Mat LM is a very straight-forward medium format TLR (twin lens reflex) camera. It uses 120 film to make twelve 6x6cm exposures per roll. It has top-down viewing through a waist level finder, a left-mounted focusing knob and a rapid advance film crank on the right side of the camera with automatic frame stopping. Yashica-Mat TLR cameras have become solid alternative to those looking to get into a twin lens camera without spending the money required for a Rolleiflex TLR.
