The Leica MP is one of two still-in-production 35mm rangefinders produced by Leica Germany, with production starting in 2003 and being sold as an alternative to the more electronic M7. It has a fully mechanical shutter with TTL metering (unlike it's meter-less counterpart, the Leica MA) and only requires a battery for the meter (unlike the M7 which has an electronic shutter with limited mechanical shutter speeds). The MP's standard .72x viewfinder is also much more modern than older Leica viewfinders with special coatings in the glass for higher contrast and less glare. A common upgrade for some older models is actually replacing the viewfinders with the MP finder; it has framelines for 28, 35, 50, 75, 90, and 135mm lenses. Unlike some of the later model Leica M's like M4-2/P's & M6's, the MP is built with a brass body.
