The Ricoh 500 is a manual focus, 35mm rangefinder camera first introduced by the Riken Optical Company in 1957. It is a solidly built camera with a coupled rangefinder. The lens barrel features a pair of quick focusing knobs that really make focusing the Ricoh 500 a treat. Another fine feature of the Ricoh 500 is the bottom-mounted rapid advance crank which you don't see often enough on a camera... at least that is our opinion.
Riken produced two models of the Ricoh 500. The original 1957 version has a 4.5cm f2.8 Ricomat lens mounted in a Seikosha-MXL shutter (top speed of 1/500) and flat camera top plate. A second version was released in 1960 that has a stepped top plate, large rangefinder/viewfinder windows and the lens is mounted in a Seikosha-SLV shutter (also with a top speed of 1/500).
