Introduced in the early 1950s (various online sources site 1952 while McKeown's guide says 1950), the Perkeo II was a slightly updated version of the preceding Voigtlander Perkeo camera. Both are medium format folders sans rangefinder that produce twelve 6x6cm images per roll of 120 film. The Perkeo II added automatic frame stopping when advancing film as well as double exposure prevention but was otherwise identical.
Regarded on its own, the Perkeo II is a super compact, streamlined, medium format folder. It is like that favorite food cart you eat at that has only three dishes on its menu but makes them all superbly. The Perkeo II doesn't have many features, nor bells and nary a whistle. But if you want an easy-to-use, reliable camera that produces great images all the while folding up and fitting easily into a coat pocket, well there are few better choices than the Perkeo II.
The Perkeo II can be found with a couple different lens and shutter combinations. The most common lens seems to be an 80mm f3.5 Color-Skopar but there is also a version with an 80mm f4.5 Vaskar. In terms of shutters, the Perkeo II can be found with either a Synchro-Compur, Compur-Rapid or Prontor S. Regardless of the combination, basic functionality is not affected. Focusing is down via distance scale on the lens and the top shutter speed seems to be 1/500 across all models.
