The Fuji GX680 II is a modular 6x8 SLR camera system with interchangeable backs, lenses, and finders produced by Fuji from 1995-1998. It features minor revisions over the original Fuji GX680. The finder of the camera now has an auto-masking feature that shows crop lines matching the rotation of the film back. The lens lock also underwent some minor modifications. As a whole, the GX680 II looks and operates near identically to the first GX680.
The GX680 II features motorized film advance and full front standard movements for studio and architectural photography. It is typically powered by rechargeable NiCad battery packs but the version pictured here for this exhibit came to us with an AC power cord adapter. The focusing screen, even with dim f5.6 lenses, is exceptionally bright.
Fuji GX680 II - Testing
We had a lot of fun film testing this Fuji GX680 II. Yes the camera is far too large to comfortably carry on the street, but as a studio camera it adds roll film convenience to large format adjustment capability. Here staff member Ashley takes in the exceptionally bright and crisp focusing screen behind the 135mm f5.6 lens.
Fuji GX680 II - RB67 Size Comparison
Few cameras can make a Mamiya RB67 feel small and delicate -- the Fuji GX680 II is one of them. Featuring motorized film advance and a full set of front standard movements, the GX680 is the ultimate 1990s studio rig perfect for portraiture and product photography. Although Fuji did make portable battery packs and even a neck strap adapter for the GX680 II, it is a very cumbersome camera to use in the field, making an RB67 feel svelte in comparison.
