The Laowa 105mm f2 Smooth Trans Focus lens is a manual focus, short telephoto lens designed for cameras using the Nikon F lens mount. This lens features a unique Smooth Trans Focus (STF) optical design that incorporates an apodization element (APD) along with two aperture diaphragms (an 8-bladed and a 14-bladed). Altogether, these allow independent control over image bokeh as well as exposure and depth of field. The APD element serves as a radially-graduated neutral density filter, limiting light transmission through the lens to a T-stop of 3.2 without affecting the lens' ability to produce the selective focus qualities of an f2 lens. Additionally this lens features three low dispersion (LD) elements and one extra refractive index element that result in exceptional sharpness and clarity of image.
This truly unique lens would make for excellent portraiture, or any selective focus photography.
This lens has the Nikon AI version of the standard Nikon F lens mount. It is best suited for Nikon SLR cameras that make use of AI lenses. It is lacking the coupling for Non-AI Nikon cameras but could still be used on those cameras without meter coupling.
