This is a stenotype machine likely dating from the 1930s. It is most likely a "Master Model Four" stenography machine (albeit with the decal on the face now missing). This machine may have originally been manufactured by The Stenotype Company of Chicago, Illinois but our research indicates that manufacturing of this model was later done by Stenographic Machines starting around 1938. It was probably part of Chicago's Lasalle Extension University stenotypy program. This machine uses the Ireland keyboard for courtroom stenography typing.
