This Royal X is a classic desktop typewriter - very heavy, very sturdy and very reliable. First introduced in 1913, the Royal X (also known as the Royal 10) was manufactured for almost 20 years until the early 1930s. This typewriter was promoted as the sturdiest and most reliable typewriter on the market and the story goes that Royal delivered 11,000 of these machines via parachute in individual crates. During its long production run the Royal 10 remained largely unaltered outside of cosmetic updates with the most notable being the addition of beveled glass plates in the side of the typewriter in later models. It has a standard four-bank keyboard, the ability to switch between red/black ribbon, the ability to set margins and tabs, and single, double or triple line spacing. The Royal 10 uses standard ribbons but in proprietary spools.
