Introduced in 1971, the IBM Selectric II is a large, electronic typewriter. It offers some improvements from its predecessor the Selectric I, including a lever which allows it to be switched between 10 and 12 characters per inch. It also has a lever which allows characters to be shifted as much as half a space to the left (for centering text, or for inserting a word one character longer or shorter in place of a deleted mistake).
