The Bell & Howell Dial 35 is a rather uniquely designed 35mm half-frame camera. Produced originally by Canon as the Canon Dial 35, and marketed in North America under the Bell & Howell brand name, the Dial 35 is a wind-up, motor-driven camera that produces 18x24mm half-frame images (landscape orientation) on standard 35mm film. The camera features manual zone focusing and a unique metering system where the ISO of the film is set via a dial on the face of the camera (which is also rotated for selecting shutter speeds) and the camera then chooses the appropriate aperture for proper exposure. A large handle at the base of the camera is wound to tension a motor inside the Dial 35 that is used to automatically advance and rewind film. The camera has a Canon 28mm f2.8 SE lens, which on the half-frame format is more or less a standard focal length equivalent to a 40mm lens on a full frame camera.
This Bell & Howell Dial 35 is a rebranded version of the Dial 35-2. As such it has manual aperture control override and originally used a 1.3v mercury battery to power the light meter.
This camera comes with its wrist strap, camera case and a battery adapter for converting 1.5v SR44 batteries to the appropriate 1.3v voltage.
