The modern version of the Mamiya 6 was introduced in 1989. It is a medium format rangefinder that offers the versatility of interchangeable lenses. While not a complete folder like the original Mamiya 6 of the 1940s, the modern version nonetheless has a collapsing lens standard that reduces the size of the camera by about 1.5 inches. Mamiya offered three lenses for the Mamiya 6: a 75mm standard focal length, a 50mm wide angle and a 150mm portrait telephoto. The finder of the Mamiya 6 displays correct frame lines depending on the lens mounted. Meanwhile the lenses use an electronic leaf shutter located in the lens barrel which makes the Mamiya 6 nearly silent and vibration-free. The camera is renowned for the superb image quality of its lenses, its light weight and compact form factor.
