The Nikon F4S is a professional-grade Nikon 35mm single lens reflex film camera designed to accept Nikon Auto Focus lenses. For its time, it was one of the most powerful and advanced cameras on the market, and certainly was the top of the Nikon line of 35mm SLR cameras. The F4S has numerous features, modes, and capabilities. It can operate in five different exposure modes (Ph, P, A, S and M). It has a focal plane shutter capable of speeds as fast as 1/8000 or as slow as 4 seconds (plus Bulb and Time settings). Metering can be done via center-weighted, spot or matrix schemes. It has motorized film advance and rewind with Single, Continuous (low), Continuous (high) and Continuous (silent) drive modes. Both the prism and focusing screens can be changed out, as well as the back door. This truly was an innovative camera and is still prized among film photographers.
While nominally an AF camera this camera can also still use AI and AIS lenses. Additionally, this camera can use Non-AI lenses with stop-down metering.
The Nikon F4S is identical to the Nikon F4, except that it has the MB-21 battery pack grip instead of the original MB-20 grip.
This camera requires six AA batteries to operate.
