The Leica 90mm f2 Summicron-M was released in 1980 as an update to the previous 90mm f2 Summicron for Leica M rangefinder cameras. Where the previous lens was already excellent and one of the best telephoto lenses in the world for over 20 years, the Summicron-M manages to be even better and was only bested by the later APO-Summicron-M version. This lens is one of the best telephoto lenses you can put on your Leica M3 or M6; it offers telephoto reach, incredibly high-performing optics and a blazingly fast f2 maximum aperture.
This lens features an optical design of 5 elements in 4 groups and has top notch performance. It uses an 11-bladed aperture design and is capable of stopping down to f16. Closest focusing distance is 1 meter (3.3 feet) for a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:9.
This is the second version of this lens that uses E55 filters.
