The Nikon 85-250mm f4-4.5 Nikkor Telephoto-Zoom was part of the original collection of lenses released with the Nikon F in the late 1950s. It is a manual focus, telephoto zoom lens intended for sports, wildlife and photojournalism. It features an optical design of 15 elements in 8 groups with angles of view ranging from 28° to 10°. A sliding collar allows quick changes to the focal length while focusing is done by twisting the same collar. Focusing distance ranges from infinity to 13ft (4m) but can get as close as 7.2ft with an accessory close-up filter that was produced specifically for this lens.
This lens has a Non-AI version of the Nikon F-mount. It is best suited for early Nikon SLR cameras such as the Nikon F, F2 and some Nikkormat cameras. Care should be taken before mounting it on later Nikon cameras that use AI lenses as not all AI cameras safely accept Non-AI lenses.
