The Minolta XG 9 is a Minolta 35mm single lens reflex film camera designed to accept Minolta SR bayonet lenses. Released in 1979, the XG 9 (also known as the XG-S in Japan) was a modest update on the previous XG-E model. The XG 9 has an electromagnetic shutter that offers stepless shutter speeds between 1s to 1/1000 in Aperture Priority mode. The XG 9 also has a meterless Manual exposure mode. Other features of the XG 9 include an electronic hot shoe with a maximum flash sync speed of 1/60, depth of field preview, electronic self-timer and battery check. The XG 9 also incorporates a brighter focusing screen than previous models that has both split prism and micro prism focusing aids.
The XG 9 requires two SR44 (or similar) 1.5v batteries for all functions.
