The Paillard Bolex H16 Reflex Camera is a 16mm motion picture film camera. The H16 Reflex added several improvements over previous Bolex H16 cameras. The biggest improvement was a new optical system that allowed through-the-lens framing and focusing. In order to do this, the H16 Reflex uses a semi-reflective prism between lens and shutter instead of the earlier rotating mirror. This innovation eliminated the flickering seen while filming with earlier models.
The H16 Reflex operates off a spring-tensioned motor. At full wind the H16 Reflex can run for 40 seconds at 16fps, making it more powerful than earlier H16 models. Like previous Bolex cameras, the H16 Reflex can accept three C-mount cine lenses in a rotating turret. The camera is capable of variable speed settings ranging from 8 to 64 fps. The H16 Reflex can run either continuously or in single frame exposures. It also has provisions for manual rewind to allow for dissolves or superimposition.
