This Nikon Nikkormat FT3 is an incredibly well-built and robust 35mm SLR camera. It was produced for a very short time from about 1977 until production ended in 1979 (in favor of the Nikon FM) and was the first and only of the Nikkormat cameras to use Nikon AI lenses. The FT3 took the already superbly designed FT2 and simply added the ability to accept Nikon AI lenses, while still maintain backward compatibility with Non-AI lenses. Popular features of the FT3 include depth of field preview, self-timer, mirror lock-up, a robust metal Copal focal plane shutter (top speed 1/1000), an electronic hot shoe, and built-in TTL light meter. This camera was a popular second camera for professional photojournalists to pair with the flagship Nikon F2A camera.
