The Canon F-1n is a robust, 35mm single lens reflex camera that also helped introduce Canon's FD lens mount. It is a professional-grade camera supporting a large system of accessories and interchangeable parts including: lenses, finders, focusing screens, and motor drives. The F-1 was meant to be a direct competitor to the Nikon F and F2 cameras. The camera has a horizontally-traveling focal plane shutter (entirely mechanical) with speeds from 1 second to 1/2000, plus Bulb. A TTL, CdS, match needle meter provides exposure meter readings. Other features include a self-timer, depth-of-field preview and mirror lock-up.
The F-1n was a mild update of the original F-1 and features a spring-tensioned battery check so that the camera's batteries couldn't be drained by forgetting to switch the camera off of Check. The advance lever was given a slightly shorter stroke and the ISO range was expanded at the high end from 2000 to 3200.
