Introduced in 1966, the Leica M4 is considered by many to be one of the best Leica M cameras ever produced. Like the M3 and M2 that came before it, the M4 features a combined viewfinder/rangefinder window, a hinged back door for easy loading and a quiet, rubberized cloth curtain focal plane shutter. The Leica M4's viewfinder has four sets of frame lines for focal lengths of 35mm, 50mm, 90mm and 135mm. The camera is entirely mechanical - no battery required - but lacks an integral light meter.
This camera is rough cosmetically but has just returned from a full CLA service. The viewfinder is sparklingly bright and clean -- it is one of the nicest M viewfinders we have looked through. All mechanical functions are in proper working order. The final photograph was taken by the repair technician after fully disassembling the camera.
