This Nikon FE is a manual focus 35mm SLR camera. The Nikon FE has an electronic shutter capable of speeds ranging from 8 seconds up to 1/1000. Since the FE's shutter does not function without battery power, the camera also has a failsafe mechanical 1/90 setting. In addition to manual exposure, the FE also offers an aperture priority automatic exposure mode. Other notable features include a relatively fast 1/125 flash sync speed, multiple exposure lever, depth of field preview lever, exposure compensation dial (+/- 2 stops) and a mechanical self-timer.
The Nikon FE uses the AI variant of the Nikon F lens mount. It is compatible with all AI or AIS Nikon lenses. It is possible to use Non-AI lenses with the FE but the camera lacks any meter coupling with the lens and metering can only be done using a stop-down metering method.
This camera requires two V76 (SR44) batteries for almost all functions.
