This Nikon 55mm f2.8 Micro-Nikkor is an update on the earlier f3.5 version of this lens. The faster maximum aperture allows for a brighter focusing screen image which makes this lens handy when used on a bellows or with extension tubes where light fall-off tends to dim the image seen in-camera. Despite the faster maximum aperture, the 55mm f2.8 Micro-Nikkor still enjoys excellent sharpness due to a redesigned optical system that includes floating elements in the rear lens group. This lens is capable of focusing down to 9.86 inches for a macro reproduction of 1:2 (half life-size) without the use of any additional accessories.
This lens has the AIS variant of the Nikon F-mount. It is fully compatible with all Nikon 35mm SLR cameras that use either the AI or AIS mounts. It is also backwards compatible with Nikon Non-AI cameras.
This lens has a 52mm filter thread.
