The Nikon N55 is an autofocus, 35mm SLR camera designed to use Nikon AF lenses. It was designed as a budget-friendly, autofocus camera for the consumer end of the market and as such offers simplified controls designed toward a more "point and shoot" mentality. The N55 still retains many useful features such as the ability to expose in Aperture or Shutter priority modes, or full manual. The camera has a built-in flash with TTL metering (but externally-mounted flashes will not be capable of the same TTL metering). There is a self-timer and a simplified bracketing mode. ISO is set automatically with no provision for manual override. The N55 winds all the film onto the takeup spool at loading and rewinds as exposures are made to prevent loss of pictures in the event the camera back is opened.
The Nikon N55 can accept Nikon AF-S and AF-I lenses but the autofocus feature will not work with them. Likewise it can also accept manual focus AI and AIS lenses but the meter will not function.
This camera requires two CR2 batteries for all functions.
