The Nikon 43-86mm f3.5 Zoom-Nikkor is a manual focus, compact zoom lens with the Nikon AI lens mount. It has a somewhat odd zoom range of 43mm (slightly wider than standard) to 86mm (a modest portrait telephoto). It features a fixed f3.5 max aperture throughout the zoom range. It was only the third zoom lens made by Nikon and sought to strike a balance between low cost and compact size on one side and reasonable optical performance on the other. It proved to be a popular lens and was known in Japan as "yon-san-hachi-roku", literally the "four-three-eight-six".
This lens has the AI variant of the Nikon F mount and is best suited for Nikon SLR cameras designed for AI lenses. It is backwards compatible with Nikon Non-AI cameras.
