The Vivitar 285HV Zoom Thyristor is a classic, all-purpose flash for older mechanical film cameras. It should not be used with any modern electronic camera due to potentially damaging voltage output. The 285HV has a bounce head, built-in sensor capable of automatic exposure modes and a guide number of 32 at ISO 100. It uses four AA batteries.
This flash unit has a custom Flash Foot 1 from Holly enterprises foot with a two pronged front port. The foot is cold and will not sync with the hot shoe of a camera, instead requiring connection via a PC-sync cable. The foot has a standard tripod socket is likely meant more to convert this flash into a slaved studio strobe.
