The Nikon N8008 was the first 35mm SLR in the world to offer a top shutter speed of 1/8000 of a second, allowing the freezing of action that had previously been unattainable. In addition to this ultra-fast top shutter speed, the Nikon N8008 has a number of other innovative features. The N8008 is capable of autofocus, with single shot or continuous modes, as well as an AF Lock feature. When combined with the Nikon Multi-Control Back MF-21 an additional "freeze focus" becomes available. Exposure modes include AE program with shift, high speed program, dual program (switches automatically between normal and high speed program modes depending upon lens focal length), aperture or shutter priority and metered manual. The N8008 also has exposure compensation, AE lock, metering patterns of: 75/25 centerweighted average and five zone matrix. The camera is capable of TTL flash metering with the appropriate Nikon flashes, as well as a number of other advanced flash capabilities when paired with the SB-24 or SB-25.
The Nikon 8008 is primarily designed to work with Nikon AF lenses, but it can also be used with Nikon AIS, AI and AI'd lenses with the loss of autofocus capabilities. This camera should not be used with Non-AI lenses.
