The Minolta Maxxum 400si is an autofocus SLR camera introduced by Minolta in early 1994. Though mainly targeted toward the consumer market and beginning photographers, the 400si nonetheless has an extensive list of features and capabilities. The 400si can be set up to be auto-everything: auto-exposure, autofocus, auto-setting of film speed as well as auto triggering of the built-in flash when needed. Or the 400si can be used more manually with the user able to set it to a metered Manual mode (as well as shutter or aperture priority), manually focus and even manually activate the built-in flash. In between and around all these core features is an advanced AF system, an 8-cell honeycomb patterned TTL metering system, exposure compensation adjustment, electronic self-timer, continuous firing modes and the ability to trigger the camera wirelessly with a remote accessory. In short, the 400si can simplify itself to be well-suited to a starting photographer and then grow its features as their experience and capabilities expand.
The 400si requires a 2CR5 battery for power. It was also known as the Minolta A-303si, Minolta Dynax 500si, Minolta Maxxum 450si Panorama Date or Minolta Maxxum RZ 430si in other markets.
