The Canon EOS 650 was the first camera introduced in Canon's EOS line of 35mm SLRs and introduced their new autofocus EF lens mount. The EOS 650 employed state-of-the-art technology for its time, using a microprocessor and a BASIS sensor for highly precise AF. The EOS 650 has an electronic shutter with vertically-travelling shutter blades and a top speed of 1/2000th (slowest speed is 30 seconds, plus Bulb). This camera offers several exposure modes, including metered manual, aperture priority, shutter priority, program AE and depth-of-field AE. Metering modes include a 6-zone evaluative and a 6.5% partial at center. Along with the autofocus, the camera has motorized film loading, advance and rewind.
The EOS 650 is still an excellent camera for film photographers looking for a good autofocus SLR on a budget. The camera gets even better considering a photographer can share EF lenses between this and a DSLR quite readily.
