This Leica M2 is a 35mm rangefinder camera designed to accept Leica M-Mount lenses. Introduced in 1957 as the successor to the famous Leica M3, the M2 was seen as a simpler, slightly less expensive model that didn't sacrifice any of the amazing design or quality of the M3. Like the M3, the Leica M2 has a combined rangefinder and viewfinder. The finder has a 0.72x magnification allowing it to support framelines for 35mm, 50mm and 90mm lenses. The M2 has a hinged back and removable baseplate for easy loading. It has a cloth focal plane shutter with speeds between 1 second to 1/1000, plus Bulb.
This camera was likely upgraded to M2 "R" spec by the factory. It has a "quick load" takeup spool that makes loading much easier. It is equipped with a standard M2 baseplate, not the rapid load baseplate.
This item has been fully serviced by Don Goldberg, aka DAG Camera Repair.
