The Nikon S3 is an interchangeable lens 35mm rangefinder camera introduced in March of 1958. It is based on the famed Nikon SP with reduced features and a lower cost. The Nikon S3 features a combined viewfinder and rangefinder, with framelines for 35mm, 50mm and 105mm focal lengths. The S3 can accept the same light meter and motor drive accessories as the SP. Depending on the version, the camera had either a titanium or cloth focal plane shutter with speeds from 1 second to 1/1000, plus B and T modes. The S3 does not have a hot shoe, with just a standard non-synced accessory shoe atop the body of the camera. Flash sync was achieved via PC cable with a shutter sync speed of 1/60. Most Nikon S3 cameras were produced with chrome bodies, but about 2000 black bodies were made over the production run.
The Nikon S3 uses the Nikon S lens mount.
