Introduced sometime in the 1910s, the Eastman Home Portrait Camera was originally part of an entire kit that consisted of camera, lens, shutter, tripod, reflector, background, plate holders and carrying case. It was marketed toward professional photographers who had to work away from their studio. The Eastman Home Portrait Camera is tailboard-style, large format camera. When folded out a rear bed drops into place and the rear standard moves along a geared track onto this standard. The Home Portrait Camera features a modest array of movements including a front rise, rear swing and rear tilt. The bed of the camera has a geared tilting mechanism as well. The camera uses a 6x6 inch lens board but can also be found with a converting board that accepts 4.75x4.75 square boards.
These cameras were later available in formats as large as 8x10, but the original Home Portrait Camera is the 5x7 film format.
Constructed of wax-finished cherry wood, these cameras are undoubtedly beautiful wooden cameras but perhaps their most distinguishing physical feature is the use of oxidized copper pieces that intentionally have a striped appearance. These metal plates were orientated specifically to make their striped appearance eye-catching and attractive.
This kit includes the Home Portrait Camera with Darlot Opticien brass barrel lens. There is one 5x7 plate holder and a large Pelican carrying case.
This camera is being sold as a collectible piece. The bellows have pinholes in them and the ground glass focusing plate is held in by tape.
