The Ilford Ortho Plus is an orthochromatic black and white negative film with an ISO 80 rating. This emulsion, renowned for its fine grain and high sharpness, was sold for many years exclusively for large format photography. However, it was expanded to 35mm and 120 formats in late 2019. The Ortho Plus film is particularly recognized for its moderately high contrast and unique tonality. Green and blue subjects appear closer to white, while red and orange subjects darken, creating a distinct look well-suited for various subjects, including portraits and landscapes.
One of the remarkable features of Ortho Plus is its ability to be handled under deep red safelights. This allows for easier loading in darkrooms and process-by-inspection when developing the film, making it a user-friendly choice for photographers who prefer manual processing.
