Kodak D-76 is a classic, black and white film developer that has been around since about 1927. It is a versatile developer that can be used with a wide range of films. It is an easy developer to use and is pretty economical as well. It is commonly found in the darkrooms of students and professional photographers alike. D-76 is commonly used at either a stock or a 1:1 dilution. The stock solution offers finer grain while diluting 1:1 typically produces sharper negatives at slightly increased graininess. Per the Kodak data sheet, D-76 offers normal contrast and excellent shadow detail. It has a long density range and is capable of decent push processing.
Some common films and development times for D-76 include:
Kodak Tri-X (68° F) 10 minutes, 1:1 dilution
Kodak TMax 100 (68° F) 12 minutes, 1:1 dilution
Kodak TMax 400 (68° F) 12.5 minutes, 1:1 dilution
Kodak TMax P3200 (70° F) 13.5 minutes, Full strength
