The Cinestill 400D is a fine grain film known for delivering a soft color palette with naturally saturated colors and rich, warm skin tones. It boasts a wide dynamic range and a base sensitivity of ISO 400, however, it can be rated from 200 to 800 and can even be pushed up to 3200. This makes the film highly versatile and suitable for any lighting condition and event, and it can be applied either outdoors or in the studio.
Unlike its predecessors, Cinestill 400D is not simply a Kodak motion picture film with the rem-jet layer removed. Developed and manufactured in partnership with their suppliers, Eastman Kodak, it was made without a rem-jet layer. Cinestill 400D still exhibits the typical red halo effect seen in 800T and 50D, but it is less prone to exposure from static electricity or other defects that have been known to affect these other emulsions.
Cinestill 400D is reminiscent of Kodak Gold 200 in terms of its color palette, while having a bit more pop than Kodak Portra. It is also noticeably fine grain and produces beautifully smooth images.
