Kodak Ektachrome E100 - 4x5
Kodak Ektachrome E100 is a daylight-balanced color reversal (slide) film known for its extremely fine grain, vibrant yet neutral colors, and lower contrast profile. Revived by Kodak in 2018–2019, it provides positive transparency images and uses E-6 processing.
Ektachrome E100 is characterized by a neutral, true-to-life color palette with a lower contrast profile than many classic slide films. That restrained contrast helps preserve detail in both shadows and highlights, and it contributes to clean, accurate skin tones and bright whites (low D-min). Its grain is extremely fine with an RMS of 8, thanks to its T-GRAIN emulsion structure. It digitally scans extremely well, yielding sharp, clean results. For a slide film, it has reasonable exposure latitude and can hold usable shadow detail when underexposed by up to a stop, though overexposure clips highlights quickly, as is typical of reversal emulsions.
While designed and intended for the E-6 chemical process, E100 is a great candidate for cross-processing in C-41 chemistry. When cross-processed it produces heavily saturated, high-contrast negatives with fairly true-to-life colors, lacking the heavy color casts seen when cross-processing other slide films.
