Drum Scans: Superior Film Scanning
Drum scanning is a highly specialized type of film and print scanning designed to give the greatest amount of detail and tonality from your image. Drum scans excel at producing images with perfectly smooth gradients, excellent preservation of shadow and highlight detail as well as minimal artifacts and noise. They are the best scans you can do for highly important projects such as book publishing or largescale printing.
Scanning with Howtek Scanmasters
Our scan lab employs two Howtek Scanmaster 6500 machines. These drum scanners work by wet-mounting film to a clear drum and then spinning the drums at high speeds while scanning. The wet-mounting process eliminates dust, scratches and Newton Rings that may normally show up during scanning. These Howtek drum scanners focus on the film at the level of the grain, creating incredibly sharp images that can exceed the resolution of the film itself.
