Tetenal Parvofin Film Developer Tabs

Tetenal Parvofin is a fine-grain compensation developer for black-and-white negative film, packaged as a two-part tablet system. The formula traces its roots to Tetenal's original powdered Parvofin introduced in the 1950s, and has been reformulated to meet current chemical safety standards while remaining compatible with both classic and modern film emulsions.

As a compensation developer, Parvofin is designed to balance sharpness and grain while preserving the full tonal range of the negative. It works at film box speed without push or pull adjustments in standard use, and is compatible with cubic-grain films like Tri-X and HP5 as well as T-grain films like T-Max and Delta. The tablet format eliminates the mixing precision and oxidation risks associated with liquid concentrates. To prepare a working solution, you dissolve one Part A and one Part B tablet in hot water (50–60°C), stir until fully dissolved, then allow the solution to cool to 20°C before use. Plan accordingly, as this cooling step typically takes an hour or two.

The tablet form offers a few other practical advantages beyond just shelf life. Because the tablets are solid and contain no liquid or loose hazardous powder, they have no shipping restrictions and are easy to travel with. The 4-year shelf life in dry storage makes Parvofin an excellent choice for photographers who develop film infrequently and don't want to worry about a liquid concentrate oxidizing between sessions. Each container holds 10 pairs of tablets.

Dilutions:

  • Standard/Normal dilution: 1 Part A + 1 Part B dissolved into 150 ml of water.
  • Economy dilution: 1 Part A + 1 Part B dissolved into 300 ml of water (results in longer development times)
