Cinestill 400D - 35mm
CineStill 400D is a fine grain film that delivers a softer color palette with naturally saturated colors and rich, warm skin tones. The film has a wide dynamic range, with a base sensitivity of ISO 400 but can be rated from 200 to 800, and it can be pushed up to 3200. This makes the film highly versatile, suitable for any lighting condition, any event, and can be used either outdoors or in the studio.
Cinestill 400D is the fourth film in Cinestill's family of films, but unlike its predecessors, 400D is apparently not simply a Kodak motion picture film with the rem-jet layer removed. Cinestill describes 400D as a new film product, developed and manufactured in partnership with their suppliers (probably Eastman Kodak) without a rem-jet layer. Cinestill 400D still shows the typical red halo effect seen in 800T and 50D, but apparently is less prone to exposure from static electricity or other defects that have been known to mar these other emulsions.
The film reminds us a lot of Kodak Gold 200 in terms of its color palette, while having a bit more pop than Kodak Portra. It is also noticeably fine grain and produces beautifully smooth images.
