Leica M-A

As a purely mechanical camera, the Leica M-A is a precision instrument that has been so dramatically reduced to the essentials that it opens up entirely new creative horizons for photographers. The exterior of the Leica M-A is as timeless as the precision engineering hidden inside. The Leica M-A is one of three(with the recent re-release of the “new” M6 in 2022) still-in-production 35mm rangefinders produced by Leica Germany, with production starting in 2014 and being sold as an alternative to the more electronic M7 and MP. It has a fully mechanical shutter with no metering (unlike it's metered counterpart, the Leica MP) and requires no battery for any functions. The M-A’s standard .72x viewfinder is also much more modern than older Leica viewfinders with special coatings in the glass for higher contrast and less glare. Like the MP, M7 and M6 it has framelines for 28, 35, 50, 75, 90, and 135mm lenses. Unlike some of the later model Leica M's like M4-2/P's & M6's, the MP is built with a brass body. The camera is Leica's first purely mechanical camera since the release of the Leica M4-P in 1981
